As part of the Cabin District of Valles Caldera National Preserve in New Mexico, the Old Barn, as it is called, was built in 1941 by local ranchers and served primarily as a storage facility for hay, straw, tack, and the "night horse." A ranch hand would use this night horse early in the morning to round up the rest of the horses grazing in the field, preparing them for the day's work.
